$50 registration fee payable upon confirmation in a class. For more information, call 422-2000 ext 4004.
The GMFRC offers Second Language Training to military spouses beginning each September, January and April. Each session offers 60 hours of instruction based on the Canadian Forces French/English Curriculum (CFFC/CFEC) which has been adapted for military spouses. Other interested individuals may inquire at the GMFRC for applicable registration fees, but the cost differs and priority is given to military spouses. The curriculum focuses on conversational skills, although there is a reading and writing component at each level.
For more information or to register, please call, drop-in to the GMFRC or visit enrolment page. The Centre is open Monday-Thursday 8:00 am - 9:00 pm, Fridays 8:00 am - 4:30 pm and Saturdays from 9 to noon.
All registrants will be required to have an Oral Placement Test prior to beginning Second Language Training. This test takes approximately 15 minutes and is conducted via telephone. The results of the test will determine the current second language level of each participant and is used to assign students to the appropriate class.
Second language classes are offered free of charge to military spouses, however, a $50 fee will be collected if there is a class that is offered at your level. If participants attend a minimum of 85% of the classes, and return borrowed materials, a full refund will be given.
The GMFRC will reimburse up to 50% of childcare costs required for class time (A maximum of $2.50 per hour for 1 child, $3/hour for more than 1 child). Participants and the caregiver are required to complete a Childcare Reimbursement form available at the GMFRC.
The minimum number of students required to offer a class is 5 and the maximum is 10. If there are more than 10 students in a class, the class will be divided.
Participants are offered a choice of daytime or evening classes. Every attempt
will be made to accommodate the student's preference.
Student's may choose from:
Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30-11:30 am or 6:00-9:00 pm
The textbooks or curriculum will be provided to students free of charge and will be distributed once a level and classroom have been assigned. Dictionaries and Bescherelles (verb books) may also be available on loan from the GMFRC.
