What is Emergency Childcare (ECC)?

Emergency Childcare means a need for childcare arising from an unexpected event that would prevent the parent or usual caregiver from providing care. Some examples are the sudden illness of a parent or a sudden deployment that does not allow the family sufficient time to implement their childcare plan.

Purpose...

• To help CF families meet unexpected childcare needs that are a direct result of their CF duty requirements.

• To support CF families during short-term crises until they are able to make longer-term child care arrangements. Guidelines.
• ECC is available to CF families at all times, day or night.
• Emergencies do not include recurring events during the course of a year.
• Emergency situations are expected to be resolved within a 24 to 72 hour period.

What do I do if my Family Care Plan (FCP) falls through?

If your FCP falls through, C/MFRCs are authorized to fund up to 72 continuous hours of emergency childcare in certain circumstances.

How do I access Emergency Child Care?

To access the Emergency Childcare service you need to call the Gagetown Military Family Resource Centre (GMFRC) at 422-2000 ext. 3352 and ask for the Emergency Childcare Coordinator.

After hours you can contact the Base Duty Padre at 422-2000 ext. 1491.

Who will look after my child/ren?

GMFRC will access a licensed daycare, home health agency or a registered GMFRC child care provider to care for your child/ren.

Would you like to become a Registered GMFRC emergency child care provider?

Then please drop by or call the GMFRC and let us know. We are always looking for a few good people to recruit, screen & train to become registered emergency childcare providers. The screening process involves but is not limited to:

• Criminal Record Check for you and anyone in your home over the age of 18 (i.e.spouse)
• Provincial child abuse registry check for you and anyone in your home over the age of 18 (i.e.spouse)
• 3 years experience in the care of children
• 2 personal references
• Personal interview
• Home setting/safety review
• Physician form
• First aid / CPR training

I don't need Emergency Child Care but I am looking for regular childcare!

The GMFRC does have a list of licensed Day Cares and Community Day Care Homes in the Oromocto & Fredericton Region. Click Here to access this list.

We also have a babysitting binder of unscreened adult and youth childcare providers in the area. This list is available at our reception desk. However, it is the parent's responsibility to satisfy themselves concerning the competence of a particular provider. The Military Family Resource Centre (including staff, volunteers and the Board of Directors), make no claim or representation with respect to the fitness and suitability of childcare providers who have chosen to advertise their services in the binder.
