Volunteers are an important and integral component of the Military Family Resource Centre's program and service delivery process. Volunteers are involved at all levels of our organization from planning, to service delivery and evaluation.
The Volunteer Coordinator conducts all screening and orientation efforts for volunteers, coordinates volunteer placements, provides assistance to staff in identifying productive and creative volunteer roles, plans for effective volunteer utilization, tracks volunteer hours and program participation, evaluates the volunteer program and coordinates volunteer recogntion activities and professional development training opportunities.
All individuals interested in volunteering with the GMFRC will be requested to complete a volunteer application form and will then be referred to the Volunteer Coordinator. Once the Volunteer Coordinator receives the application form, the volunteer will be contacted to establish a convenient time to come to the Centre for their screening/orientation. At this meeting, the Volunteer Coordinator will provide the applicant with information regarding GMFRC programs, policies, and other pertinent information. This interview will orientate the new volunteer to the Centre as well as allow the Volunteer Coordinator and applicant the opportunity to discover where the latter's skills, interests, and talents would best be applied.
The Volunteer will also be requested to sign an "Oath of Confidentiality" and complete a "Criminal Records Check". The new volunteer will then be provided with a Volunteer Kit, which includes a copy of the GMFRC Volunteer Handbook. Volunteers are encouraged to use the Kit to file their professional development certificates, letters of reference, appreciation certificates, completed work records and other pertinent documents. As a registered volunteer, you are provided with various opportunities to utilize your talents and skills and/or gain new experiences through programs just for our volunteers.
